Judge Scott Schofield is presiding judge of the Family Division of the Berrien County Trial Court. After his appointment as a district judge by Governor John Engler, Berrien County voters returned Judge Schofield to the district court in 1998, 2002 and 2008. In 2014 he was elected to the circuit court. Judge Schofield is the only judge to have served in all three of the Trial Court's divisions: criminal, civil and family.
After earning his undergraduate degree with high honors from Alma College in 1973, Judge Schofield graduated with honors from the University of Michigan Law School in 1976. He then practiced for 21 years with a law firm in Niles, assisting clients over a broad range of legal problems. He took the bench in 1997.
Judge Schofield worships at Granger Community Church, and over the years he has been an active volunteer with many community organizations. He and his wife, Nancy, live in Niles and are the parents of two grown children. In Judge Schofield's spare time he enjoys spending time with family, reading and training for his next triathlon.
