Smoking Cessation Classes

Smoking Cessation classes are taught by Public Health Promotion and Prevention facilitators certified by the American Lung Association.

The classes offer individuals a step-by-step plan for quitting smoking. The classes are based on the underlying premise that smoking is a learned behavior, a triggered behavior, and a social behavior. Quitting then becomes a process during which individuals must consciously unlearn the automatic behavior of smoking and substitute in its place, healthy new alternatives. We try to make quitting a less stressful experience and help the smoker figure out better ways to cope with situations that ordinarily trigger smoking.

The smoking cessation series includes eight (8) sessions taught as a group model with no more than ten (10) participants. Each session takes approximately an hour (1) to an hour and half (1 ½) to complete. The cost per participant is thirty ($30) which includes course materials, workbook, informational brochures, relaxation CD and a course-completion pin. Special accommodations may be made for business groups.

For more information or to schedule classes, please call Public Health Promotion and Prevention Program Support Specialist Jennifer Robbins at 269-927-5622 or jrobbins@bchdmi.org
