Concealed Pistol License Information

To apply for a new CPL, you must be a Berrien County resident and you should:

1. Obtain a Concealed Pistol License Guide containing the application form from the County Clerk’s office at the Berrien County Administration Center in St. Joseph or the Niles South County Building.  You may also download the form here on our website.
    
2. Complete the mandatory training class and receive a certificate.
    
3. Bring the completed, unsigned application form, training class certificate, valid driver’s license, 2 passport quality photos, and $105.00 application fee to the County Clerk’s office. (Photos may be taken at the St. Joseph County Clerk’s Office for $10.00 a set).
    
4. Once the $105.00 application fee is paid, take your receipt to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department in St. Joseph to be fingerprinted. (Fingerprints are taken Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm at no additional cost).
    
5. A background/reference check will be conducted on each applicant and an interview time will be scheduled for you with the gun board.  Expect approximately 60 days for processing time.
    
6. Once approved by the gun board, applicants will be instructed to return to the County Clerk’s office to pick up their new CPL. You will need to present your driver’s license and pay a $1.00 lamination fee at that time.

The renewal process has the same requirements except a training class certificate is not required and fingerprinting may not be necessary.
