  • Board of Determination deemed project as necessary on October 12, 2011.

Berrien Center Drain #037

Berrien Township

  • Board of Determination was held on September 14, 2009
  • Project will consist of cleaning out & improving the drains and consolidating drainage districts
  • Drainage districts to be consolidated are Berrien Center, Berrien Center Branches, and Berrien Center M-140 Branch
  • Engineering firm is LSG Engineers & Surveyors of Lansing MI
  • Plans and design are currently in process
  • No change in status, 2/13/12

Blue Jay Drain #046

  • Board of Determination deemed project as necessary on Oct. 11, 2011
  • Engineering firm is Spicer Group of Grand Rapids
  • No status change 2/13/12

Eaman Drain #035

Hagar Township

  • Board of Determination was held on October 5, 2010
  • Project will consist of improving drainage issues in the vicinity of Eaman and Lynch Roads
  • Engineering firm is Wightman & Associates of Benton Harbor MI
  • Necessity of the project is currently under appeal in Circuit Court
  • Appeal found the project "Necessary"
  • A new appeal has been filed with the Court of Appeals
  • No change in status, 2/13/12

Hibbard Lake Drain #223

Coloma Charter and Hagar Townships

  • Board of Determination was held on October 5, 2010
  • Project will consist of consolidating drainage districts and improvments to the drainage system
  • Drainage districts to be consolidated are Fetke, Fetke Ext, Hibbard, Hibbard Lake, Hibbard Lake Ext, Hibbard Lake Ext Martin Rd Br. and Michigan Beach #1
  • Engineering firm is Spicer Group Inc of St Johns MI
  • Raw sewage issues are being dealt with by the Drain Commissionser's Office, Berrien County Health Deptartment and Spicer Group Inc.
  • Surveying has been completed
  • Plans and design are currently in process
  • Design meeting was held on January 14, 2011
  • Anticipate a meeting with MDOT the week of Feb 14th regarding the sizing and requirements of the pipe under I-196, and the contribution area of MDOT
  • Draft preliminary agreements with MDOT are currently under review with legal counsel
  • No change in status, 2/13/12

Hollywood Consolidated Drain #524

Lincoln Charter, Royalton and St Joseph Charter Townships

  • Consolidation of the Bort & Lambrecht, Hollywood Road Detention, Lincoln Ave & Miller & Beach Drainage Districts
  • Engineering firm is Spicer Group Inc of St Johns MI
  • Watershed Study Completed
  • All three townships listed above worked together for a solution to flooding issues in the Hollywood Road and Glenlord Road area
  • Bidding was held on February 23, 2010
  • Division contracts were awarded to: Div. I - Pajay Inc of New Buffalo MI, Div II - Woodhull Const. of Grand Ledge MI, Div. III - Quantum Construction of Douglas MI, & Div. IV - J F New of Holt MI
  • Day of Review of Apportionments was held on March 16, 2010
  • Appeal of apportionments was filed with Probate Court
  • Board of Review was held on  April 8, 2010, Board upheld apportionments of the Drain Commissioner's office
  • Construction started on schedule in Mid June
  • Project considered substantially complete on November 12, 2010
  • Wetland plantings and growth are under review for acceptance
  • No change in status, 2/13/12

Kerstetter Drain #274

Pipestone Township

  • Board of Determination held on June 7, 2011 and project was deemed as Necessary
  • Project on hold, Board of Determination decision is under appeal
  • Project was determined necessary by Circuit Court
  • Engineering firm is Abonmarche of Benton Harbor MI and design are in process
  • No change in status 2/13/12

Lake Shore Drain #285

Chikaming and New Buffalo Townships

  • Engineering firm is Spicer Group Inc of St Johns MI
  • Bidding was held on August 20, 2010
  • Division Contracts were awarded to: Div. I - Georgetown Const of Jenison MI, Div II - Mead Bros of Springport MI and Div III - Chapman's Nursery of Battle Creek MI
  • Day of Review of Apportionments was held on August 31, 2010
  • Project construction started in mid October 2010
  • Division I has completed laying pipe and the outlet at Galien River
  • Division II is approximately 50% completed. Currently installing pipe for the Lake Shore Road Branch and the WIlliams Court Branch and will be starting the Nora's Lane Branch within the next 7-14 days
  • A revision in the Paradise Villa area has been implemented to allow more water to infilterate into the drainage system
  • Most of the machinery will be moved off site as the heavy portion of the project is substantially complete; Road type repair equipment will remain in the area to address road issues as they appear during the thawing of snow.
  • Lake Shore Road Branch was completed the first week of March. Contractors will work on Nora's Lane from March 7th to March 18th.
  • Spoils will be removed during the week of March 21st to April 1st, as the contractor moves further up the storm drain. During the soil removal, there will be time periods between 8am and 5pm that access may be blocked for up to 30 minutes for loading for Nora Lane residents
  • Project is considered substatially complete, anticipate restoration to be complete by September/October 2011

Lakeside Drain #287

Chikaming Township

  • Board of Determination was held on June 30, 2009
  • Project consist of improving drainage structures near East Road and Railroad Tracks
  • Engineering firm is Spicer Group Inc of St Johns MI
  • Surveying is complete
  • Preliminary plans are in place awaitng Township meetings and final approval
  • Anticipate bidding project in early Spring of 2011
  • An informational meeting was held on March 3, 2011 at 6:00 pm at the Chikaming Township Hall, the engineer was present with preliminary design plans.
  • Project currently under review by a Wetland/Environmental Expert for Prairie Trillium
  • Anticipate keeping the following schedule: Pre-Bid Meeting-8/17/11; Bid Opening-8/24/11; Day of Review-9/7/11 and begin construction by 12/1/11
  • Bids were rejected by the Drain Commissioner, hoping to re-bid in January-February 2012
  • Manditory Pre-Bid - Feb 1, 2012 10:00 am; Bid Opening - Feb 8, 2012, 10:00 am; Day of Review of Apportionments - March 1, 2012 9am-5pm
  • Both division contracts were awarded to B&Z Company of Benton Harbor Michigan, construction should begin Spring of 2012

Moore, Klassner & Hess

Galien & Weesaw Townships

  • Board of Determination was held on Ocotober 26, 2010
  • Project cosists of improving drainage structures and consolidating drainage districts
  • Drainage districts to be consolidated are Moore Klassner & Hess, Moore Klassner & Hess East Br, & Old Moore Klassner & Hess
  • Engineering firm is LSG Engineers & Surveyors of Lansing MI
  • District is currently being surveyed by Engineer
  • Anticipate bidding project in late Spring of 2011
  • Project survey is approximately 75% complete
  • Survey is complete, discovered a possiblity of re-routing the flow of water into two (2) outlets instead of one (1)
  • No change in status,2/13/12

North Royalton Drain #373

St Joseph Charter Township

  • Board of Determination held on June 1, 2011, project deemed as Necessary
  • Reconvened Board of Determination held on August 17, 2011 to allow for up-sizing pipe.
  • Engineering firm is Spicer Group of Grand Rapids
  • District is currently being surveyed by Engineer
  • Design and plans are in process
  • No change in status 2/13/12

Oak Hill Springs Drain #658

New Buffalo Township

  • Board of Determination held on May 24, 2011, project was deemed as Necessary
  • Engineering firm is Wightman & Associates of Benton Harbor
  • Design and plans are in process
  • Reconvened Board of Determination to add lands to drainage district was Nov. 1, 2011, 10:00 am at the New Buffalo Twp Hall.
  • No change in status 2/13/12

Rizzo Consolidated Drain #436

Benton Charter Township

  • Board of Determination held on June 7, 2011, project was deemed as Necessary
  • Consolidation of Wallace Drain #541, Wallace Central Branch Drain #077, and Rizzo Drain #436
  • Engineering firm is Abonmarche of Benton Harbor
  • Design and plans are in process
  • Reconvened Board of Determination Dec. 1, 2011
  • No change in status 2/13/12

 Smith & Strong Drain #473

Coloma Charter Township

  • Board of Determination was held on July 14, 2009
  • Project consists of improving drainage structures near Johnson and Paw Paw Lake Roads
  • Engineering firm is Spicer Group Inc of St Johns MI
  • District survey has been completed
  • Plans were reviewed by Drain Commissioner's office and awaiting final approval
  • Anticipate bidding project in early Spring 2011
  • A Reconvened Board of Determination to add lands to the drainage district was held on March 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Coloma Charter Township Hall; and an informational  Meeting was  held immediately following the Reconvened Board of Determination; the Engineer was present with preliminary desing plans.
  • The Reconvened Board determined it necessary to add lands to the Smith & Strong Drainage District.
  • Project is ready for bid with following schedule: Pre-Bid Meeting-8/17/11; Bid Opening-8/24/11; Day of Review-9/7/11 and begin construction on 12/1/11
  • Project is currently being financed, construction should start Spring of 2012

Williamson Drain #556

Baroda & Lincoln Charter Townships

  • Board of Determination was held on December 15, 2010, projcet was deemed necessary
  • Project consists of improving  and extending drainage structures near Cleveland Ave and Linco Road
  • Engineering firm is LSG Engineers & Surveyors of Lansing MI
  • District surveying has been completed
  • Preliminary plans are being completed
  • Engineers and the Berrien County Road Commission met on March 10th and are working together for pipe sizing and requirements along Cleveland Ave
  • Day of Review was held on June 30, 2011
  • Beginning construction on August 8, 2011
  • Pipe is in and restoration is underway, work still remaining on Linco Road
  • Substantially complete October 31, 2011
  • No change in status, 2/13/12

Zielke's Vintage Estates Drain #627

Lincoln Charter Township

  • Board of Review was held on June 30, 2009
  • Project consists of improving drainage outlet and consolidating drainage districts near Defay Road
  • Drainage districts to be consolidated are Zielke's Vintage Estates, Zielke's Vintage Estates No. 2, & Zielke's Vintage Estates Niagara Br
  • Engineering firm is LSG Engineers & Surveyors of Lansing MI
  • District surveying has been completed
  • Plans are in place
  • Land acquisition is necessary and has been initiated
  • Aniticipate bidding project in early Summer 2011
  • Engineers are working on a third alternate for construction and design per the request of the Drain Commissioner
  • Reconvened Board of Determination on Oct. 11, 2011 deemed it necessary to add lands to the drainage district
  • Project should be ready to bid out in winter of 2012
  • No change in status, 2/13/12
