How to Read a Property Number

County Number:
Example: 11 = Berrien County
This number represents the county in which the property is located. All property numbers in Berrien County begin with 11.

City, Township or Village Number:
Example: 18 = St. Joseph Township
This number indicates the city, township or village in which the property is located. Below is a list of the numbers associated with cities, townships, and villages in Berrien County.

 

Section or Plat Number:
Example: 0002 = Section 2 of St. Joseph Township
Section numbers signify a more specific location within a township, city or village in which the property is located.  A plat number represents a specific division of land such as a subdivision or condominium.

Abbreviated Parcel (property) Number:
Example: 0014-00 = Parcel 14-00 in Section 2 of St. Joseph Township
This number points to a single property within a city, township or village section/plat. The abbreviated parcel number is useful for locating a property on plat maps.

Check Digit:
Example: 3
The check digit is an arbitrary number assigned to each property during the coding process that aids in record keeping.
