Batteries
Recycling certain batteries keeps heavy metals out of landfills and our environment. Battery recycling also saves resources because recovered plastic and metals can be used to make new batteries.
***Common alkaline batteries are no longer considered hazardous. Please note which places listed below will take any battery vs rechargeable batteries only.
- Household Hazardous Waste Collections: Household (rechargeable AND non-rechargeable), vehicle, boat, and mower batteries are accepted at the county sponsored collections. Click here for a list of Household Hazardous Waste Collection dates and locations.
- Southeast Berrien County Landfill Recycle Station: 3200 Chamberlain Road, Buchanan, 695-2500. More information about this drop-off site can be found under Drop-off Recycling in this guide.
- St. Joseph Recycling Drop-off Center: 1160 Broad St., at the entrance to St. Joseph Public Works facility, 1st & 3rd Sat. of the month 9:30-Noon, and 1st & 3rd Wed. of the month 5-6pm. Accepts dry cell, household batteries.
- Taylor Rental: 2524 M-139, Benton Harbor. 925-2125. Accepts small batteries up to cell phone size.

- Best Buy: accepts rechargeable batteries ONLY. Collection bin inside front entrance.
