Hazardous Waste
WHAT MAKES A PRODUCT HAZARDOUS?
If the product contains one or more of the following properties, they are considered hazardous: flammable/combustable, explosive/reactive, corrosive, or toxic. Look for words on the label such as warning, danger, poison, toxic, flammable, and hazardous.
- Berrien County Household Hazardous Waste Collections: these collections are open to Berrien County residents only, no businesses. Accepted items include:
home, garden, garage, and workshop chemicals such as
used motor oil
gasoline
antifreeze
oil-based paint
stains
varnishes
paint removers
pesticides
pool chemicals
cleaning chemicals
mercury
car batteries
household batteries
outdated medicines
medical sharps compact fluorescent light bulbs
and more.

- School Chemical Clean-out Program: The Resource Recovery Office offers a program to Berrien County schools to help them safely recycle and dispose of chemicals. Call 983-7111 ext. 8234 for more information.
- Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center: Berrien County residents can use the permenant HHW Center in Kalamazoo County. Berrien County residents must show ID when using this facility. Learn more at www.kalcounty.com/hhw.
